SBCC - May 7th Event Info
7 May festivities.
- Vessel Safety Checks. USCG Aux personnel will be available 12-4
pm to perform this valuable service. Let me know of your interest to take
advantage of this service. I'll need to know in advance so that the right #
of USCG Aux personnel are available. If you have previously sent an email
to that effect, you don't need to send a 2nd one.
- Boat Bottom Cleaning. A special rate for SBCC members. I have
arranged with Steve Rodes, Water Borne Dive Services for a onetime $1.25 per
foot to clean your boat. Steve will replace zincs for the cost of the
zincs. He will be doing my boat and several others on the 7th. Steve has
been cleaning my boat and that of other SBCC members for several years. He
is the son of Steve & Gail Rodes, who have informed me that they want to
become members of SBCC. Please support Steve, he's part of the family.
Again, for planning purposes, Steve has asked that we let him know in
advance the number of boats.
- Transit docking at Vinings. If your plan to bring your boat to
Vinings for the day/evening, the fee is $1.00 per foot. DJ & Lori and Paul
& Teresa have already made their reservations. If you are staying at Bay
Pointe or Little Creek, I believe there is no fee to bring your boat over to
Vinings for the day/evening, check with the marina to make sure of this.
- Hot dogs. Burgers, sodas, water, etc. Ryan and Shana White,
members of our Club, and owners of Marine Concepts, will be hosting lunch
for one and all. I believe the time is 11:30 to 1 p.m. You can bet I'll
be there - that's a free lunch, something that doesn't happen very often.
- Evening Festivities start at 6 pm.
- Blessing of the Fleet ceremony. Jon Bennett, minister, has
graciously agreed to perform this solemn ceremony. No boats will be moved.
- Raising of the SBCC Pennant. Brian Baker, Regional Mgr, VMG
Marinas and Dan Burrell, Mgr, VLMC will join me in the ceremonial raising of
the SBCC pennant. Our friend Oliver of Trident Marine will act as Master of
Ceremonies.
- Dock-tails and heavy hors d'oeuvres. Please bring a dish to
share and you beverage of choice. Weather permitting it should be a great
evening.
- After Dinner - Burning of the Sock ceremony. Sailors, cruisers
and ladies alike - bring you old and torn socks and toss them into the fire.
A ceremony tracking back to Annapolis, MD. to recognize the end of winter
and the start of the spring season. It won't be fun if you don't bring out
those "holie" socks lying about in your drawers.
- Music to end the evening. Yes. We're getting fancy. Guitarist
and singer Bob Leslie, who most recently played at the Laughing Gull and a
number of other locations throughout the Hampton Roads area has agreed to
provide the entertainment for the evening. He will be playing from 7:30 to
9:30. You see, it really is going to be a great evening and a wonderful
way to kick off the 2011 boating season. How do I/we pay for Bob's
services? I will be passing the hat around. Thanks.
So please come and join the fun, ambience and good ole camaraderie. Also,
by all means, bring your friends; just have them bring a dish to share as
well. VMG will set up tables and chairs and provide us with coolers and
ice. Kathy has you covered on the paper products. You may want to bring a
folding chair although this is not absolutely essential.
The party will be centered on the grassy loam area adjacent to the pool by
Dock "A" at Vinings.
The most important point, Bay Point, Little Creek & Willoughby Harbor marina patrons you are
ABSOLUTELY INVITED TO ATTEND. This is a SBCC function and we support all
VMG marinas in the Norfolk, VA.
Lastly, let's have fun and a responsible evening.
